DEB C MORRIS
Textile and watercolour artist
'My aim is to create uniquely beautiful contemporary artworks.'
Deb's stunning original textile artworks are based on subjects that include wild-life, seascapes inspired by living on the Solent and more abstract works inspired by early Victorian machinery.
Her distinctive designs are 100% hand-sewn and can take up to 120 hours to complete.
Her work focusses on colour, texture, pattern, and movement, balancing intricate, sometimes whimsical detail with the restrained use of space.
Initial ideas are developed into hand drawn compositions. Template pieces are then created to build the main image. Next, both recycled and new fabric and wadding is used to create the main image using needle-turned applique. Upcycling unusual materials like cellophane, plumber’s washers, bamboo canes and string is then used for the framing devices and next layer of detail. Labour-intensive embroidery embellishment with occasional stump and felt work follows.
Each piece is professionally box-framed to further enhance the colour of the piece – making them ideal as embellishments to your own living, work, or hospitality space.
